Ramya Ravichandran

Ramya is a generalist focused on the design and development of responsible AI systems. She brings nearly a decade of experience working across facets of the tech-for-good ecosystem. Her interdisciplinary toolkit spans data science, social impact strategy, and behavioral science.
Career
Ramya is an independent consultant and writer in responsible AI. She works with organizations across the responsible technology ecosystem and coaches ambitious professionals in navigating their careers.
Prior to this work, Ramya was a Senior Associate Director at the global advisory firm APCO, where she was a core member of building APCO Impact — the firm's social impact and sustainability practice. She advised global corporations, nonprofits, and philanthropies on strategy and partnerships, ultimately shaping the deployment of $500M+ in capital.
At APCO, Ramya served as the firm's first and only SME at the intersection of technology and philanthropy. In this role, she architected a cross-sector panel on the future of responsible AI in collaboration with All Tech is Human, convening 200+ attendees during SF Tech Week 2024 (APCO's largest West Coast event to date).
Ramya began her career working across data science and policy at Ernst & Young and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Centre for Humanitarian Data.
Credentials
Ramya holds a bachelors in Computer Science and Master of Public Policy from the University of Virginia, as well as a Certificate in Social Impact Partnerships from Georgetown University. She is currently pursuing an executive MSc in Behavioral Science at the London School of Economics.
Service
Ramya serves on the board of directors at Acterra, a leading Bay Area climate nonprofit with a 55+ year legacy and unique fiscal sponsorship model to empower local communities in building a more climate-resilient future. From 2020–2021, she served as a data advisor with DataKind, working with the City of San Jose's Mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation to pilot a data equity framework for local government, ultimately published in EAAMO ’21.
Community
Ramya splits her time between San Francisco and London. She loves travel and the outdoors — having proudly summited two 14,000 ft mountains — and cares deeply about empowering others. Her book club, which started during COVID, recently read their 50th book together.
